Costanzo Sales and Training

Our young horses gain a firm foundation before they ever set foot on the racetrack. Several different round pens and a large indoor riding/training area offer a safe environment for those important first rides. Quiet, shady riding trails wind throughout the farm and neighboring acreage, offering ideal opportunities for young horses to gain confidence and add to their experiences. Trails also add variety by providing older horses with a different setting for exercise, in addition to the track.

Because we own the well-maintained, three-quarter-mile dirt track in partnership with two other training facilities, our horses are exposed to many of the sights and activities they will encounter at the racetrack. This makes it easy for them to learn to go in company and see plenty of other horses, yet they remain in a safe environment because the track is never crowded.

Horses can get their gate card here using the four-horse starting gate, and our track is also used to record official workouts.

Our state-of the-art swimming facility and European free walker are invaluable for conditioning horses, as well as bringing back horses that come to us for rehab, lay-up and freshening. We have numerous grass turnout paddocks with shade trees and safe, four-board fencing.

Although we’re fortunate to have a highly reliable foreman and a team of longtime employees and riders, we remain totally hands-on involved with every horse entrusted to our care. Tony personally handles the training of each horse. No two horses are identical and we realize the importance of treating each animal as an individual, from nutrition and daily care to every step of the training and conditioning process.

In this business, you can’t produce quality by using an assembly line, cookie cutter approach. We monitor each horse closely and maintain a realistic approach to readying horses for the sales. We craft a personalized program for each young horse designed to develop and prepare them both physically and mentally.

Every decision is based on the horse’s best interest. We maintain a sensible approach to training and prepping for the two-year-olds sales, and refuse to sacrifice any horse’s well being just to make a specific sale date. Our ultimate goal is to see every horse achieve their highest potential at the racetrack. We treat each of our client’s equine investments as though they were our own, and appreciate the loyal clientele who have been with us for many years.

Supervising the training

“The Costanzos have started my yearlings for the past seven years. My two-year-olds come in track-ready and always look great. Most recent is Win Willy, winner of the Rebel Stakes-G2. I’ve been to their training facility and it is second to none.”

State-of-the-Art swimming facility

“I have had horses with Tony and Peggy for the last 10 years. They do an excellent job of breaking and race preparation. Their hands-on operation allows them to provide individual care to each horse. They have started such horses as Three Hour Nap, Smoke Smoke Smoke, Win Willy, and Celluloid Hero, which all turned into stakes winners. I highly recommend their farm.”
